Toxic gas kills a coal miner in Dukki

Daulat Khan Kakar :

LORALAI: Methane gas has killed a coal miner in Balochistan’s Dukki district on Sunday. Levies sources said the coal miner became unconscious deep inside the mine because of the methane gas.

The coal miner was extracting the coal when the mine suddenly filled with toxic gas. Rescue workers and fellow miners reached the affected mine and retrieved the dead body.

Levies said the victim identified as Ainullah, a resident of Afghanistan. The dead body was shifted to district headquarters hospital Dukki. The hospital administration handed over the dead body to the heirs after the completion of necessary procedures. Poverty hit people from Southern Afghanistan and Pakistan’s Swat and Shangla have been working inside coal mines of Balochistan for a long time.

Such untoward incidents inside coal mines of Dukki are an order of the day. Methane gas blasts have claimed hundreds of lives of coal miners in the district, which has rich coal reservoirs.
