ISLAMABAD: Cracks surfaced within the ruling Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) as the Federal Defense Minister, Pervez Khattak openly criticized Prime Minister, Imran Khan on Thursday evening. Sources within the ruling party said Mr. Khattak asked the Premier, “You brought all non-elected people in the government”. Khattak was referring to federal ministers Shaukat Tareen and Hammad Azhar. “We made you PM but there is no gas supply in Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa”, Khattak told Imran Khan.
Differences within the ruling party surfaced during its parliamentary meeting. The Prime Minister reportedly left the party meeting after criticism by the Federal Defense Minister. “I will leave if you have no confidence in me”, the Premier was quoted by TV channels.
“I have no industry and factory and I am not concerned about the seat”, Mr. Khan told the meeting. This was perhaps for the first time that cracks appeared within the ruling party.
Khattak remained Chief Minister of khyber Pukhtoonkhwa when Mian Nawaz Sharif was the Prime Minister.
