QUETTA: Civil Secretariat employees staged a protest demonstration outside Chief Secretary Balochistan‘s office on Thursday. Hundreds of secretariat employees reached the main gate and gathered outside the CS’s office.

“Our protest will continue till acceptance of demands”, Abdul Malik Kakar, the President Balochistan Civil Secretariat Employees Association (BCSEA) told Quetta Voice. The employees chanted full-throated slogans against the provincial government and demanded a solution to their issues.

“Employees’ demand is simple and that is secretariat allowance”, Mr. Kakar mentioned. He said the government has failed to pay secretariat allowance to the employees despite repeated assurances. For the last two months, the government is making false commitments with us, Mr. Kakar asserted.

Official activities came to standstill as a result of protests

Official activities came to standstill as a result of protests staged by the secretariat employees. People from far-flung areas of Balochistan came and went back in despair as there was none to proceed with their cases. “Employees should not punish us”, Muhammad Ikram, a resident of Killa Saifullah said. Ikram had come to the Agriculture department for work. However, no official was inside the office to facilitate Ikram.

Like Ikram, scores of people from various parts of Balochistan had come to the civil secretariat for solutions to their issues.

Employees had staged a 12-days long protest last year

The grand government employees association had staged a 12-days long sit-in in Quetta last year. However, the employees called off their strike and their issues were not resolved.

The Secretariat administration had taken strict security measures to avoid the occurrence of any untoward incident. A heavy contingent of police was also deployed to avert any untoward incident during the protest demonstration. There was no response from the Balochistan government concerning the ongoing protest by the employees.
