QUETTA: Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) has staged a protest demonstration against the murder of a Samaa TV producer in Karachi. BUJ staged the demonstration on the call of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (BUJ).
Armed men opened fire and killed Athar Mateen in Karachi’s North Nazimabad. The protesters demanded the arrest of the culprits involved in the murder of the Samaa TV producer. Political personalities, students and people belonging to various walks of life also participated in the protest demonstration staged by journalists.
“We demand an immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the murder of the journalist”, Irfan Saeed, the President BUJ said. He said the Sindh government has failed to protect the lives of the journalists.
The journalists chanted full-throated slogans against the police and Sindh government for their failure to arrest the culprits involved in the murder. “This is shocking news, government should bring the perpetrators to book”, Saleem Shahid, the Senior Vice-President PFUJ demanded.
The journalists lamented that the government had subjected senior journalist Mohsin Baig to torture and now a journalist was killed in a broad daylight in Karachi.
The murder of Athar Mateen has been widely condemned by political parties, civil society, and people belonging to all walks of life across the country.
