A man and woman were killed in the name of ‘honor’ in Balochistan’s Naseerabad district on Sunday morning. Police sources said the incident happened in the Manjo Shori area of the district. An accused opened fire and killed a man and woman in the name of ‘honor’. The dead bodies of the victims were shifted to district headquarters hospital in Dera Murad Jamali.

Police were quick at the spot and arrested the accused along with weapons. Police shifted the accused to Manjo Shori police station for interrogation. A case was also registered against the accused in connection with the murder of a man and woman. This was the third reported incident of ‘honor’ killing in Naseerabad division during the year 2022.

Incidents of ‘honor’ killings are on a constant rise in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. This incident has come a day after an accused opened fire and killed a woman in the name of ‘honor’ in Quetta’s Sariab road area.

Rights groups have expressed concerned voice over increasing incidents of ‘honor’ killings and called for an end to this brutal custom. “So many incidents this year”, Allauddin Khilji, the Chief of Aurat Foundation Balochistan told Quetta Voice. Mr. Khilji said the government had failed to protect its citizens and such incidents were order of the day.

“Honor’ killing has claimed the lives of more than 12 men and women in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan since January 1st, 2022. Most of the incidents have happened in Naseerabad and Jaffarabad. However, a couple was also brutally murdered in Mastung district of the province. The couple was killed for their love marriage after three years. The accused are still at large.
