BHC admits BUJ petition for hearing about PECA Ordinance

Balochistan High Court (BHC) has admitted the Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) petition about the Pakistan Electronics Crimes Act (PECA) 2016. BUJ President Irfan Saeed, Secretary-General Manzoor Ahmed had submitted a constitutional petition challenging the PECA in the court.

President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Shehzada Zulfiqar was also present on the occasion.

A division bench of the BHC comprising Mr. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, the Chief Justice, and Mr. Justice Rozi Khan Bareech admitted the petition for hearing. The bench directed the Attorney General of Pakistan to submit a report in this regard.

Rahib Buledi Advocate, the Chairman of Balochistan Bar Council presented the BUJ in court. Talking to reporters in the premises of the high court, Mr. Buledi stated the Ordinance was illegal and unconstitutional in the presence of democratic institutions. “Journalists would continue their struggle against the PECA”, Irfan Saeed, the President BUJ stated.
