Gas loadshedding in Quetta as SSGC officials refuse to comment

With the arrival of autumn, citizens of Quetta have been facing gas load shedding for the last more than a week. Dry weather and cold wind further compounded the problems of citizens of this provincial capital. “No gas supply for the last three hours”, Syed Muhammad, a resident of Nawan Killi said.

No, and low gas pressure in Pashtoonabad, Nawan Killi, Sariab Road, Marriabad, Khartobad, and other outskirts of Quetta. This daily tried to speak to the concerned officer in the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). However, no contact could be established with the concerned officer of the SSGC.

SSGC PRO-based in Karachi remains out of contact

“I cannot comment on gas pressure SSGC Public Relations Officer (PRO) is based in Karachi”, Muhammad Anwar Baloch, the General Manager of SSGC Quetta said. He refused to comment on public complaints when asked by this daily.

“What an irony, we are facing unannounced load shedding before the winter”, Muhammad Bilal, a resident of Quetta’s Sariab Road said. Without any intimation, the gas supply suddenly disappears in different parts of Quetta. This causes gas explosions when the supply resumes without any intimation.

“My room was filled with gas when I came back after two hours”, Muhammad Khan, a resident of Mission Road Quetta said. The gas heater was on when Mr. Khan left the house as he came back, the room was filled with gas since there was an announced load shedding.

Gas blasts claim precious human lives

“Fortunately, there was no blast as I opened all windows”, Mr. Khan informed.

Gas leakage and blasts have claimed scores of precious human lives in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. Besides Quetta, people in Ziarat, Kalat, Mastung, Pishin and other parts of Balochistan have also complained about gas load shedding.

There has been no campaign on the part of SSGC regarding the gas load shedding schedule and creating awareness among the people in the chilly weather regarding gas leakage and explosions.
