QUETTA: Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) on Monday submitted a petition to the Balochistan High Court (BHC) seeking the quashing of cases against Azam Swati, the former federal minister. A total of five first information reports (FIRs) were registered against the PTI leader for using foul language against state institutions in Khuzdar, Gwadar, Kuchlak, and Zhob.

“We have challenged the registration of FIRs against Azam Swati”, Syed Iqbal Shah, the counsel for Mr. Swati told reporters at the BHC. He said the court is yet to formally admit the petition. “Hopefully, the petition would be admitted and notices are issued to the government”, Mr. Shah said.

Swati arrested in Islamabad by Balochistan Police

This petition has come two days after the Balochistan Police arrested the former federal minister Azam Swati in the federal capital and brought him to Quetta. Mr. Swati was produced before a local court, which handed over Mr. Swati to the police for five days of remand. Although, police demanded ten days remand of Mr. Swati in this regard.

This is strange that 50 cases have been registered against Azam Swati in spite of the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Qasam Suri, the PTI leader said. He said PTI leadership cannot be stopped from what he asserted as its political and democratic struggle in the country.

Suri lashes out at the government

Mr. Suri lashed out at the present government and reiterated that it is an ‘imported government’ imposed on the masses of Pakistan. “We will resist this setup at all levels since we enjoy the support of the masses”, Mr. Suri said.

A case has already been registered against Shehbaz Gill, the former adviser to the former prime minister Imran Khan at Killa Abdullah police station. Maulavi Azizullah, a resident of Killa Abdullah has pleaded in his application that Mr. Gill used derogatory language against state institutions in his speeches.
