Another FIR surfaces against Azam Swati in Balochistan

Quetta: Senator Azam Swati’s Lawyer submitted an application requesting the court not to present Mr. Swati in Kuchlak Court for health and security reasons on Thursday. Magistrate Kuchlak has ordered to issue of notices to concerned authorities summoning the investigating officer and the prosecutor.

The counsel for Senator Azam Swati appeared before the magistrate in Quetta’s Kuchlak tehsil court. The counsel, Mr. Syed Iqbal Shah Advocate stated in the application that Senator Swati is suffering from heart issues and his age is more than 73 years.

While there is an alleged threat to his life, so he should not be presented in the Kuchlak court away from the city while arguing with the magistrate, the lawyers said that “A few days ago there was an explosion on the police truck on the Kuchlak highway”.

There is a security risk for Mr. Swati in bringing him to Kuchlak which is 15 km away from Quetta. Kuchlak Magistrate Shireen Dawood inquired that why Senator Azam Swati was not kept at the Kuchlak police station. Advocate Iqbal Shah said that the government has given security reasons for not keeping Senator Swati at the Kuchlak police station.

That is why the Kuchlak court is requested to present Senator Azam Swati in the district court of the city or through a video link. Later, Magistrate Kuchlak received the application and ordered to issue notices summoning the investigating officer and the prosecutor.

Senator Azam Swati was remanded to the custody of Quetta police on Sunday by David Magistrate Tenth of District Court Quetta and Azam Swati is likely to be produced in court on December 10.

It should be noted that there 5 First Information Reports (FIR)s registered against Mr. Swati from internal Balochistan. However, Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Tuesday barred police from registering a further FIR against the former federal minister, Azam Swati. A division bench of the BHC comprising Mr. Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mullakhail and Mr. Justice Muhammad Amir Rana passed this order on a constitutional petition filed by the son of Azam Swati.
Senior lawyers Naseebullah Tareen Advocate, Syed Iqbal Shah, and others appeared before the court on behalf of Mr. Swati.
