CHAMAN: At least one person was killed and 16 were injured when Afghan Taliban fired mortar shells in Pakistani territory at the Pak-Afghan border Chaman on Thursday. Women and children were also among the injured. “We received 16 injured after armed clashes at the border”, Dr. Abdul Malik Achakzai, the Medical Superintendent (MS) at civil hospital Chaman said.
Afghan Taliban fired mortar shells at Killi Sheikh Alam and Changaiz check posts areas inside the Pakistani territory. The mortar shells exploded with a big bang causing panic in the area. The injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital Chaman for medical treatment. An emergency was declared in the hospital to provide timely medical treatment to the injured of the cross-border attack.
Five seriously injured people were rushed to the civil hospital Quetta for medical treatment. “We have received five injured and the condition of two is serious”, Waseem Baig, the Spokesman for civil hospital Quetta said.
Doctors were called on an emergency basis to provide timely medical treatment to the injured. his armed clash has come almost three days after the Afghan Taliban fired rockets into Pakistani territory on Thursday morning. The rockets fired by the Afghan Taliban claimed seven precious human lives. Over two dozen people have been injured as a result of the rocket attacks.
Pakistan had lodged a strong protest over the unprovoked Afghan forces’ attack on Pakistani territory. Pakistan has also tightened security at the Pak-Afghan border after a heavy exchange of fire with Afghan forces. Scores of frontier corps personnel were moved towards the border after fresh clashes, eyewitnesses told Daily Quetta Voice via telephone. Afghan side has also tightened the security on their side of the border, they said.
Balochistan Home Minister, Mir Ziaullah Langove strongly condemned the cross-border attack and expressed sympathies with the family members of the victims. In a statement issued after the attack, Mr. Langove said it was an unprovoked firing by the Afghan Taliban at the border. He however directed the security forces to tighten security at the border.
