Transporters blocked the Quetta-Zhob highway against increasing incidents of robberies on Sunday morning. Traffic on the main highway linking Balochistan with Punjab was blocked by transporters to vent their anger against the increasing looting incidents.
“We want protection from robbers on highways”, Muhammad Munir, a truck driver told Daily Quetta Voice. He said the administration had failed to provide protection and security to the transporters and drivers.
The highway remains blocked for 10 hours
The highway remains blocked for more than 10 hours and passengers suffered a lot because of the blockade of the highway. Passengers traveling between Quetta and Islamabad waited for hours to reach their destinations.
Protesters said that last night the bandits robbed several trucks and their drivers. 10 lakh rupees were taken away from the drivers. The truck drivers had completely closed the national highway to all types of traffic. Due to the closure of the national highway, long queues of vehicles were formed. Passengers are facing severe difficulties.
Senior administration officials reached the spot and held successful negotiations and convinced the transporters to bring an end to the protest demonstration and reopen the highway.
