Balochistan Assembly demands 33 % quota for women in services

QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly on Thursday demanded the provision of a 33 percent quota for women in government jobs. The house adopted a unanimous resolution calling for a 33 % quota for women in Balochistan.

The session of the assembly resumed here with a panel of chairman Asghar Tareen in the chair. Shakeela Naveed Dehwar, a lawmaker from the opposition party, Balochistan National Party (Mengal) tabled the resolution.

The resolution was unanimously adopted by the house after a short time debate. “The women quota should be increased from 5 percent to 33 percent”, Shakeela Naveed Dehwar demanded. She said that women were being ignored from all walks of life. Women make up more than 50 percent population of the total population of the country but they are only given a 5 percent quota in services. “We demand equal status in all government departments and institutions”, she said.

The chair put the resolution for voting. All the lawmakers from the opposition and the government unanimously adopted the resolution calling for a 33 percent quota of women in services.

The house discusses the financial crisis faced by universities of Balochistan

The house also discussed issues relating to various districts of Balochistan. Nasrullah Khan Zarai, the PKMAP lawmaker presented the resolution with regard to the financial crisis faced by the public universities in Balochistan.

Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind, a lawmaker from Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) strongly condemned the murder attempt at his son in Balochistan’s Bolan area a few days back. He said innocent people were killed in the attack. However, his son was unharmed in the attack.

The session was prorogued after discussing various issues relating to Balochistan. The Secretary Assembly, Tahir Shah Kakar read the order of Governor Balochistan, Malik Abdul Wali Kakar in this regard.
