At least one prisoner was killed when jail wardens opened fire in the wee hours on Thursday. Police sources said 17 prisoners managed to escape from the prison.

Jail administration opened the fire on fleeing prisoners in Chaman, a city near the Pak-Afghan border. One prisoner was killed when the jail wardens retaliated and opened fire.

However, 17 prisoners succeeded in breaking the prison and successfully fleeing. Senior prisons officials reached the spot after the fleeing of the prisoners.

The inspector general of prisons Malik Shuja Kasi took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry.
