From Our Correspondent:
Killa Saifullah: Chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP), Mahmood Khan Achakzai, speaking at a public gathering in Qilla Saifullah to honor the martyrs of democracy, demanded the immediate release of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and other political prisoners. He cautioned that failure to release them could lead to widespread unrest.
Reflecting on PMAP’s past struggles, Achakzai recalled the sacrifices made by the party during General Zia-ul-Haq’s rule, when four party workers were martyred in Quetta during a rally for the restoration of democracy. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to upholding democratic values and constitutional rights, stressing the importance of allowing political parties and peaceful assemblies to operate freely.
Achakzai condemned the ban on the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), calling it a violation of constitutional freedoms, and expressed solidarity with judges standing in defense of the constitution. He reiterated his party’s long-standing dedication to democracy and the rule of law.
Turning to international matters, Achakzai criticized Israel’s actions in Palestine, urging the global community, particularly Muslim nations, to take decisive action to stop the violence. He advocated for a two-state solution as the key to peace in the region.
Several other party leaders also spoke at the event, including General Secretary Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Nawab Ayaz Khan Jogezai, and District President Dara Khan Jogezai. Nawab Ayaz Khan Jogezai voiced his concerns over the recent elections, describing them as a selection process rather than a fair election. He also raised alarm over the security situation in Qilla Saifullah.
Achakzai concluded by calling for unity among Pashtuns, emphasizing the need to protect their resources and resolve disputes through traditional jirgas, and urged tribal elders to lead their communities through challenging times.
