BARKHAN – The health of multiple women and children deteriorated after consuming allegedly poisonous tea in Barkhan, prompting an immediate response from the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA).

The incident, which occurred four days ago, has raised concerns about food safety in the district. Director General BFA, Attiqullah Khan, has directed swift action, including dispatching a special mobile inspection team from Quetta. The mobile team, in collaboration with the zonal inspection team, will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident’s causes and prepare a comprehensive report.

In a telephonic conversation with Deputy Commissioner Barkhan, Attiqullah Khan discussed the alarming situation and emphasized the need for stringent measures to prevent such incidents. “Mobile and zonal inspection teams have been assigned special tasks, and a campaign for quality checks of edible items will begin this week in Barkhan,” Khan stated.

The BFA has also announced plans for inspecting food centers and launching a region-wide campaign to ensure the quality and safety of consumables.

This unfortunate incident highlights the urgent need for heightened food safety standards to protect public health.
