Health Desk:

QUETTA: An outbreak of skin diseases, including scabies, has affected over 200 inmates in the District Jail Quetta, sources within the Balochistan government confirmed on Wednesday.

The outbreak is reportedly linked to overcrowding, poor hygiene, and inadequate food quality inside the prison. While the exact cause has not yet been identified, these factors are believed to have contributed significantly to the spread of infections.

According to sources, some of the severely affected prisoners have been referred to Bolan Medical Complex and Civil Hospital Quetta for treatment. Despite repeated attempts, no official statement was received from the prison department. However, a senior officer, speaking anonymously, dismissed the reports as exaggerated.

Contrary to this, officials from the health department confirmed the outbreak and emphasized the urgent need for better living conditions and medical care for the inmates.

The situation has raised concerns about the management of prison facilities in Quetta, with calls for immediate action to prevent further deterioration of health among the incarcerated population.
