News Desk: The Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT) has successfully completed the construction of 250 houses for families affected by the 2022 floods in Balochistan. These homes, built in areas including Quetta City, Mastung, Pishin, Killa Saifullah, and Sohbatpur, mark a significant step in rebuilding lives and restoring hope for disaster-hit communities.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti commended KORT’s efforts, describing them as a testament to humanity and resilience. During the event, keys to the newly constructed homes were handed over to the victims, providing them with much-needed stability after months of hardship. The Chief Minister acknowledged KORT’s dedication and pledged the Balochistan government’s full support for organizations working for the betterment of society.
The Chief Minister also expressed concern over delays in the federal government’s flood recovery initiatives, stating that the victims continue to face challenges. He proposed that the provincial government, if entrusted with the project, could complete it within eight to nine months through a public-private partnership model. Drawing inspiration from Sindh’s successful initiatives under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chief Minister expressed confidence in achieving similar results in Balochistan.
In addition to addressing immediate flood recovery needs, Chief Minister Bugti announced the establishment of a large-scale institution for orphaned children in Balochistan. He assured that the provincial government would provide free land for this purpose and called on philanthropists, government officials, and public representatives to contribute to this noble cause. The Chief Minister pledged his personal involvement in the project, emphasizing the importance of community-driven efforts for social upliftment.
Reflecting on the spirit of national unity, the Chief Minister praised the people of Kashmir for their reciprocal support to Balochistan in its time of need. Recalling the collective efforts during the Kashmir earthquake, he highlighted how this shared solidarity strengthens the fabric of the nation.
The event also featured remarks by KORT Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Akhtar, who highlighted the organization’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian service. Provincial ministers, parliamentary secretaries, PPP leader Syed Iqbal Shah, Vice Chairman of the Balochistan Board of Investment Bilawal Khan Kakar, and Commissioner Quetta Division Hamza Shafqaat were among the notable attendees.
Concluding the ceremony, Chief Minister Bugti announced certificates of appreciation for donors, volunteers, and philanthropists, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the cause. He also reaffirmed his vision for a progressive and prosperous Balochistan, stating, “Balochistan is changing, and together, we will lead the province toward development and a brighter future.”
