QUETTA: The Forest Department of Balochistan has imposed a fine of Rs. 17 million on the administration of a shopping mall for illegally cutting down Chinar trees on Hali Road in Quetta without prior permission. The incident drew significant attention, prompting the department to take strict action.

According to the Conservator of Forests, Quetta Division, Muhammad Niaz Khan Kakar, a case was registered by Forest Guard Nooruz Khan, leading to the penalty. The department emphasized that no leniency would be shown to those harming the environment under the directives of Chief Minister Balochistan.

The crackdown on tree cutting extended beyond Hali Road, as notices were issued for tree-cutting incidents at Balochistan University and Shaaban area. Furthermore, three block officers and one range forest officer were suspended for negligence. The department announced that an FIR would be registered against the responsible officials on Monday.

Speaking on the issue, Conservator Muhammad Niaz Khan Kakar stated, “Trees are vital for a healthy and beautiful environment. They provide immense environmental, economic, and social benefits.” He also assured the public that new trees would be planted to replace the ones cut down, with proper care and maintenance to follow. The Conservator stressed the importance of public cooperation in preserving the environment.

This firm stance against environmental degradation highlights Balochistan’s commitment to protecting its natural heritage and ensuring a healthier ecosystem for future generations.
