QUETTA: Syed Fasih Iqbal, a towering figure in Pakistani journalism, especially in Balochistan, is fondly remembered by those who knew him as a visionary mentor, statesman, and fearless journalist. A photograph of him recently resurfaced, reviving memories of a man whose legacy continues to inspire many in the field of media.

With over 20 years of mentorship, he played a foundational role in shaping the careers of many of today’s prominent journalists. As the founder of the Zamana Group of Newspapers, his contribution to both Urdu and English journalism in Balochistan remains unmatched. He nurtured journalistic talent at a time when media resources in the province were scarce.

Syed Fasih Iqbal had the rare distinction of being elected Senator three consecutive times, a testament to his national stature and deep respect across political lines. Despite the dominance of large media houses and powerful tycoons at the national level, he rose to become President of CPNE and APNS multiple times, representing Balochistan with dignity and conviction.

He possessed unmatched knowledge of Balochistan’s history, tribal dynamics, and political complexities. He was always at the forefront when it came to raising a voice for the province’s rights and played a pivotal role in the peaceful resolution of many issues.

Those who knew him believe that if he were alive today, he would have played a wise, reconciliatory, and statesmanlike role in navigating the current challenges facing Balochistan.

As time moves on, many may have forgotten his name, but his contributions live on in the fabric of Balochistan’s journalistic and political history.

May Allah grant Syed Fasih Iqbal the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous. Ameen.
