Education Desk:Â
Teachers and staff at the University of Balochistan (UoB) have not received their salaries even as April 20 has passed, leaving many facing serious financial stress.
Sources said the employees are not only awaiting their salaries but are also being denied approved utility allowances that had earlier been passed by the university’s Finance Committee, Syndicate, and Senate.
In the meantime, an audio message from the Vice Chancellor to faculty and staff has surfaced, in which he expresses helplessness due to the lack of funds.
He can be heard stating that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Balochistan government have yet to release necessary funds.
The VC’s voice in the audio gives the impression that he feels powerless in resolving the salary crisis but assures that he is doing his best to address the issue.
Faculty members added that the previously announced 20% and 25% pay raises by the government have also not been implemented so far. Moreover, they are witnessing heavy deductions from their salaries in the name of taxes and housing maintenance.
Teachers and staff voiced concern over the growing impact of the financial crisis, saying they are unable to meet their basic needs. They fear this will not only affect their personal lives but also the academic performance of the institution.
They have appealed to the Governor of Balochistan, the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary, and other relevant authorities to ensure immediate disbursement of salaries, restoration of approved allowances, and implementation of the promised pay raises so they can perform their educational duties with focus and peace of mind.
