ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership, during a high-level National Security Committee (NSC) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, strongly condemned what it termed as “blatant violations” of the country’s sovereignty by India. Officials declared these actions as “acts of war” under international law.
The NSC denounced the deliberate targeting of civilians, including women and children, by Indian forces, calling it a “heinous and shameful crime” that violates international humanitarian norms and legal conventions.
The meeting was attended by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza, ISI Director General Lt Gen. Asim Malik, and chiefs of Pakistan’s armed forces. Senior cabinet members, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, also participated. Political adviser Rana Sanaullah, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, and foreign affairs aide Tariq Fatemi were among the other attendees.
UAE and EU Call for Restraint
Reacting to the escalating situation, the United Arab Emirates urged both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and avoid further confrontation. UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized the need for dialogue and peaceful engagement, warning that further escalation could destabilize the South Asian region and beyond.
He stressed the importance of diplomatic solutions, adding that the UAE remains committed to supporting initiatives aimed at resolving conflicts through negotiation and reducing humanitarian suffering.
Meanwhile, the European Union also voiced concern and urged both countries to take “immediate steps” to calm tensions. EU foreign affairs spokesperson Anouar El Anouni highlighted the bloc’s position that only a peaceful, negotiated settlement can ensure lasting stability between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
