According to local sources, Latif Baloch was attacked inside his home during the night while he was asleep. The assailants opened indiscriminate fire, killing him on the spot.
The Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) strongly condemned the brutal killing, calling it a direct attack on press freedom. In a joint statement, BUJ President Khalil Ahmed and General Secretary Abdul Ghani Kakar expressed deep sorrow and grief over the murder, describing Latif Baloch as a committed, fearless, and honest journalist whose contributions to journalism are unforgettable.
“This heinous act is yet another reminder of the growing threats journalists face in Balochistan,” the statement said. “It is an attempt to silence the voice of truth, and we demand a high-level investigation into the incident.”
The BUJ added that the increasing violence against journalists in Balochistan raises serious concerns about the state of press freedom and security in the province. “If urgent and meaningful steps are not taken to protect journalists, the consequences could be extremely dangerous,” the statement warned.
The union called on the Balochistan government to immediately arrest those responsible for Latif Baloch’s murder and ensure concrete measures are taken for the safety and security of working journalists across the province.
