Qaseem Shah:

QUETTA – The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has filed a constitutional petition in the Balochistan High Court, challenging the recently passed Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act 2025. The party has termed the legislation unconstitutional and against the interests of the people of the province.

The petition was submitted by JUI-F Balochistan Chief Senator Maulana Abdul Wasey, alongside Senator Kamran Murtaza and other senior leaders. The petition argues that the act was passed in haste without proper consultation, and key stakeholders were deliberately excluded from the legislative process.

In a significant political development, JUI-F party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had earlier issued show cause notices to party lawmakers who voted in favor of the bill in the Balochistan Assembly. The leadership called their actions a violation of party discipline and a betrayal of the people’s mandate.

The Balochistan Assembly passed the Mines and Minerals Act 2025 with majority support, including votes from both treasury and some opposition benches. However, JUI-F strongly opposed the bill, citing concerns over the control and distribution of natural resources in the province.

Party leaders claim the legislation undermines the constitutional rights of Balochistan’s people over their natural wealth. They have vowed to fight the law through all available legal and democratic forums.

The case is now before the Balochistan High Court, where JUI-F hopes to have the act annulled or amended in line with provincial autonomy and public interest.
