DERA BUGTI / BHAG – A landmine explosion in the Mari area of Dera Bugti claimed the life of a shepherd on Sunday. According to Levies officials, the explosive device, planted underground by unknown individuals, detonated and killed the victim, identified as Shadman Bugti. Authorities transported the body to the hospital for legal formalities before handing it over to the family. An FIR has been lodged, and further investigation is in progress.
In a separate and equally tragic incident in Bhag city, a four-year-old boy, the only child of a laborer, drowned in a pool of sewage water that had accumulated due to an incomplete drainage system. The drain has reportedly been under construction for several months, with the contractor abandoning the project mid-way and disappearing.
Residents have expressed outrage over the lack of monitoring and accountability, blaming the failure on the negligence of municipal authorities and relevant departments. They noted that major parts of the city, including religious sites such as Pir Sabir Shah, Haider Shah Shehenshah, and Sufan Shah, have become submerged in dirty water, posing serious health and safety risks.
Citizens and civil society groups have raised concerns about the potential for further tragedy during upcoming rains and have demanded immediate action. They called on the Secretary for Local Government, Secretary for Municipal Affairs, Commissioner Naseerabad, Deputy Commissioner Kachhi, and the Chief Municipal Officer to urgently address the city’s growing infrastructure and sanitation crisis.
