Islamabad — In a partial relief for consumers, the federal government has announced a significant cut in the price of petrol by Rs7.54 per litre, while slightly increasing the price of high-speed diesel by Rs1.48 per litre.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the revised prices of petroleum products will take effect from midnight tonight (August 1).

With this latest revision:
• Petrol will now be available at Rs264.61 per litre
• High-speed diesel will cost Rs285.83 per litre

The move comes after four consecutive price hikes in recent weeks, and aligns with falling global oil prices and reduced import premiums, officials say.

Earlier reports had suggested a possible reduction of around Rs9 per litre in petrol and Rs3.50 per litre in diesel, based on international market trends. However, while petrol users saw a substantial cut, diesel users were met with a slight increase instead.
