From Our Correspondent:
Dera Bugti, August 2, 2025 — A deadly landmine explosion in Pakistan’s Dera Bugti district claimed the lives of two men and left another seriously injured, in yet another tragic incident highlighting the region’s ongoing vulnerability to unexploded ordnance.

Local sources report that the blast occurred when villagers attempted to remove a suspected device buried in the ground. The deceased have been identified as Zahid Chakarani and Wishu Chakarani, while the injured man, Sada Chakarani, is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

This incident has once again raised concerns about civilian safety in Dera Bugti — a region long plagued by the hidden threat of landmines and unexploded bombs. Residents have repeatedly called for the area to be cleared of such dangers, especially near schools and residential zones where the risk to innocent lives, including children, remains high.

Activists and community members emphasize that the presence of landmines not only hampers daily life but continues to endanger human lives with alarming regularity.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. Meanwhile, calls are growing louder for a comprehensive demining operation and stronger safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
