London (Monitoring Desk) – A grand musical concert was held in London to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people’s victory against Japanese aggression and the Allied triumph in World War II.
Titled “Respecting History for a Better Future”, the event featured 10 captivating performances, attracting more than 300 attendees, including diplomats, artists, and members of the local community.
The concert was presented by the Hunan Song and Dance Theatre and New Elements Music, with special performances from guest artists of the London City Orchestra and Camden Philharmonia Orchestra.
Speaking at the reception before the show, Chinese Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang said:
“Tonight, through music, we remember history and pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for humanity and justice. We also express our strong commitment to peace and the shared aspiration for a brighter future.”
Anthony Jones, Chairman of the Lisbon Maru Memorial Association, praised the concert, calling it a “beautiful blend of shared wartime memories between China and Britain.” He highlighted the documentary “The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru”, which tells the story of Chinese fishermen who bravely saved British prisoners of war during World War II.
The event not only honored history but also symbolized the enduring friendship and emotional connection between the peoples of China and the United Kingdom.
