Chaman: A police officer was martyred on Friday after unknown assailants opened fire on a polio vaccination team in the Roghani area of Chaman, officials said.
According to initial reports, the polio workers remained unharmed during the attack. However, a police officer assigned to provide security to the team sustained critical injuries as a result of the firing and later succumbed to his wounds.
Following the incident, security forces rushed to the scene and launched a search operation in the area. The body of the martyred officer was shifted to Chaman Civil Hospital for legal formalities.
Authorities have condemned the attack and stated that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible. Polio vaccination activities in the area have been temporarily reviewed as a precautionary measure.
