News Desk: In a major step toward flood recovery in Balochistan, 118 climate-resilient homes have been handed over to families in Hanna–Urak, Quetta, whose houses were destroyed during the devastating 2022 floods in Pakistan.

The keys of the newly constructed houses were formally distributed among beneficiary families during a ceremony attended by local officials and community members. Mir Murad Baluch, Honorary Consul of Germany in Quetta, handed over the keys to families, marking an important milestone in rebuilding efforts for flood-affected communities.

Officials from the Government of Balochistan, including representatives of the Planning and Development (P&D) Department and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), were also present at the event.

The newly completed houses are part of a larger initiative to build 700 climate-resilient homes in Balochistan for families displaced by floods. Earlier, 40 houses had already been completed and handed over during the first phase of the programme.

The housing initiative is being implemented with financial assistance from the Government of Germany through KfW Development Bank, in partnership with the Government of Balochistan, to help vulnerable communities rebuild stronger homes capable of withstanding future climate disasters.

The project aims to promote climate-resilient housing in Balochistan, ensuring safer living conditions for families while strengthening long-term disaster preparedness in flood-prone areas.
