Syed Ali Shah:

In a candid assessment of Balochistan’s struggling education sector, Lal Jan Jaffar has revealed that nearly 2.5 million children in the province are still out of school, exposing a deep-rooted education crisis.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, he said that out of an estimated five million children aged between five and 16 years, almost half are not enrolled in schools. He further highlighted alarming findings from a recent learning outcomes survey, which showed that only 30 percent of students in government schools are meeting basic learning standards, while nearly 70 percent are not acquiring essential education.

He described the situation as deeply concerning, pointing to multiple challenges including the impact of recent floods, outdated education policies, and political interference, all of which have contributed to weakening the system.

Despite these challenges, Jaffar said the provincial government is determined to improve the situation. He noted that a province-wide school enrollment campaign has been launched under the directives of Mir Sarfaraz Bugti to bring more children into classrooms.

He also shared that over 12,000 teachers have been recruited on merit to strengthen the education system and ensure better learning environments. He termed these efforts a positive step toward ensuring that every child in Balochistan has access to education and a better future.
