Quetta, April 27, 2026: Inspector General (IG) of Balochistan Police, Muhammad Tahir has emphasized the urgent need to strengthen the investigation system to ensure modern policing and improved public service delivery, stating that accountability and individual responsibility are key to eliminating crime from society.

The IG made these remarks during a meeting with probationary Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) from Sindh, who visited the Central Police Office as part of a study tour led by Deputy Commandant Sarfraz Ahmed Falaki of the National Police Academy, Islamabad.

Highlighting the core responsibilities of the police, the IG said protecting citizens’ lives and property and resolving their issues without delay remains the department’s foremost duty. He stressed that supervisory officers play a pivotal role in fulfilling these responsibilities effectively.

Senior officers, including Additional IG Operations Agha Muhammad Yousaf, DIG Finance Sohail Ahmed Sheikh, AIG Operations Naveed Alam, Course Commander Muhammad Jawad Ishaq, AIG IT Fazil Shah, AIG General Abid Khan, AIG Legal Shafiq-ur-Rehman Shahwani, and AIG Security Division Dr. Sami Malik, were also present at the meeting.

Focus on Modern Policing and Training

Addressing young officers, the IG urged them to adopt professionalism, public service, and modern policing practices while strengthening ties between police and the community. He advised them to remain open to learning, noting that field experience plays a critical role in shaping future leadership.

“The future of policing is IT-based,” he said, urging officers to focus on acquiring new skills and adapting to emerging trends. He added that honesty, dedication, and a spirit of public service are essential for success in the police service.

Women Officers Encouraged to Lead

The IG also addressed female officers, encouraging them to serve as role models and actively address issues faced by women in society. He stressed that their role is vital in ensuring better access to justice for female citizens.

Police Reforms and Training Initiatives

The IG highlighted ongoing reforms within the Balochistan Police, including the training of former Levies personnel who were merged into A-area policing. He said the three-month modern training program, launched on January 1, 2026, aims to enhance their professional capabilities.

Crackdown on Proclaimed Offenders

He appreciated the performance of various police ranges in a special campaign against proclaimed offenders, announcing cash rewards for top-performing districts. Kachhi district received Rs250,000, Hub Rs200,000, Quetta Rs150,000, and Sibi Rs100,000, while Kohlu and Ziarat were awarded Rs75,000 each for achieving 100% performance in arrests.

The IG praised the efforts of DIGs and SSPs for maintaining discipline and demonstrating professional commitment during the campaign, urging other districts to follow their example.

Strengthening Public Trust

To improve public trust, the IG said open courts (Khuli Kacheris) are being regularly held under DIGs and SSPs, allowing direct interaction with citizens and prompt resolution of complaints. He stressed that access to police officers should be easy for the common citizen.

Digital Services and Safe City Projects

The IG highlighted several initiatives aimed at modernizing policing, including mobile units for character certificates and e-licensing services to reduce public inconvenience. He added that Safe City projects, equipped with modern surveillance cameras, are helping monitor criminal activity and improve traffic management.

The establishment of a Serious Crime Investigation Wing is also assisting in resolving complex cases more efficiently.

Accountability and Welfare Measures

Under the internal accountability system, strict action is being taken against corrupt elements, while outstanding officers are being rewarded with cash prizes and commendation certificates.
