KALAT: An officer of the Airport Security Force (ASF) and his companion were reportedly kidnapped by unidentified armed men in Balochistan’s Kalat district while travelling along the national highway, officials said on Friday.

According to police sources, the incident took place around 42 kilometres from Kalat when a group of armed assailants intercepted a vehicle heading from Quetta to Karachi. The attackers allegedly forced two passengers out of the vehicle and took them to an unknown location.

The abducted individuals were identified as ASF Deputy Director Muhammad Waseem and his associate, Saeed.

Police said the kidnappers allowed the vehicle’s driver and another passenger to leave unharmed. After reaching safety, they informed local authorities, triggering an immediate response.

Following the incident, security personnel and law enforcement agencies launched a search operation in nearby areas to trace the whereabouts of the missing men and secure their release.

Officials have yet to determine the motive behind the abduction, while investigations remain ongoing. Authorities said further updates would be shared as the operation progresses.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over security on highways in parts of Balochistan, where travellers and officials have occasionally faced targeted attacks and kidnappings.
