QUETTA: “The 2½-year formula holds no importance in Balochistan,” Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Balochistan Parliamentary Leader Mir Saleem Khan Khosa said on Sunday, firmly dismissing growing political speculation about a possible change in the province’s chief minister.

Speaking at a joint press conference at Governor House Quetta, Khosa sought to put an end to rumours surrounding a power-sharing arrangement, saying the coalition government in Balochistan remains stable and fully functional under Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti.

He said Bugti has consistently worked to keep coalition partners united and engaged, despite the province facing difficult political and security challenges.

“There is no significance to the so-called 2½-year formula in Balochistan,” Khosa said, referring to ongoing political discussions over a possible leadership transition. He added that even if such a proposal ever surfaced in the future, any final decision would lie with the federal leadership rather than provincial political circles.

His remarks come amid increasing speculation over whether Balochistan’s political setup could witness changes in the coming months. However, Khosa made it clear that the provincial government remains focused on governance rather than political uncertainty.

Calling for a deeper understanding of Balochistan’s realities, he said security concerns in several districts continue to demand serious attention, making lasting peace the government’s top priority.

“Given the current circumstances, our complete focus is on restoring sustainable peace and stability in the province,” he said.

The press conference was attended by Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, MNA Jamal Shah Kakar, provincial ministers Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani, Mir Asim Kurd Gello, Muhammad Khan Lehri, Naseem-ur-Rehman Mullahkhail, Hadeeda Nawaz Zarak Mandokhail, and Parliamentary Secretary Barkat Rind.

During the briefing, Khosa also strongly condemned the recent bomb attack on a train near the Chaman crossing, describing it as an unacceptable act of violence. He reiterated that law enforcement agencies would continue to fulfil their constitutional responsibility to protect citizens and maintain peace.

Touching on recent political developments in Chaman, Khosa also referred to comments made during a public gathering by opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, stressing the importance of political responsibility, constitutional dialogue, and social harmony in Balochistan.

He emphasized that, despite political differences, the province’s stability and unity should remain a shared priority for all stakeholders.
