QUETTA: Balochistan security forces and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) have intensified intelligence-based operations across the province, arresting six alleged terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), two female suicide bombers, and several key commanders and operatives of proscribed organizations, officials said during a press briefing in Quetta.

The operations also led to the foiling of an alleged major terrorist attack planned in Quetta around August 14, with law enforcement agencies arresting key suspects Niaz Jatoi and Habib-ur-Rehman and recovering weapons, hand grenades and explosive materials.

The details were shared by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Balochistan on Information and Political Affairs Shahid Rind, Additional Chief Secretary Home Hamza Shafqaat, and DIG Police Quetta Imran Shoakat during a joint press conference.

Quetta Terrorist Attack Plot Foiled, Weapons and Explosives Recovered

Additional Chief Secretary Home Hamza Shafqaat said security agencies acted on intelligence reports to prevent a major terrorist attack in Quetta. According to officials, suspects allegedly involved in the planned attack were arrested, while dismantled weapons, light machine guns (LMGs), hand grenades and explosive materials were recovered.

Officials said the weapons and explosives had been transported to Quetta through routes connecting Chaman and Chagai. Individuals allegedly involved in transporting the prohibited materials were also identified and taken into custody.

The arrests represent a significant development in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in Balochistan, where security agencies continue to target militant networks, illegal arms transportation and suspected terrorist facilitators.

Six Terrorists and Two Female Suicide Bombers Arrested

According to the briefing, intelligence-based operations in the Shaban and Khammadkoch areas resulted in the arrest of six alleged terrorists and two female suicide bombers.

Authorities also reported the arrest of two key commanders associated with foreign-backed proscribed organizations. More than 90 suspects are reportedly being investigated at the Detection Center as part of the wider counter-terrorism effort.

The operations form part of a broader security strategy aimed at disrupting militant networks, preventing suicide attacks and strengthening law enforcement across Quetta and other districts of Balochistan.

CTD Conducts More Than 3,300 Intelligence-Based Operations

DIG Police Quetta Imran Shoakat said the Counter-Terrorism Department, in coordination with security forces, had conducted more than 3,300 intelligence-based operations.

According to figures presented at the press briefing, these operations resulted in the arrest of more than 300 alleged terrorists, who were subsequently brought into the legal process.

Officials also discussed enforcement measures against illegal residence, vehicle smuggling and illicit weapons. The briefing cited the deportation of approximately 1.1 million undocumented foreign nationals and action concerning around 50,000 non-custom-paid (NCP) vehicles.

These measures, officials said, are part of wider efforts to improve law and order, restrict illegal activities and strengthen security throughout Balochistan.

Balochistan Government Offers Reconciliation to Former Militants

During the press conference, officials reiterated that the state and the provincial government remain willing to facilitate individuals who abandon militancy, renounce violence and agree to live peacefully within the constitutional framework.
