TAFTAN: Angry protesters staged a protest demonstration at Taftan, Pakistan’s bordering town with Iran on Friday. The protesters were demanding of the Balochistan government to immediately shift them to Quetta since they have completed the quarantine period.
“We are here for the last 16 days and completed quarantine period”, Abdul Qadir Achakzai, one of the protesters told Quetta Voice via telephone. When asked about protest by people at Taftan, Spokesman government of Balochistan, Liaquat Shahwani said there was a lack of coronavirus kits to conduct their tests. “Within the next couple of days, kits would reach Taftan”, Mr. Shahwani said, adding that then all traders, ziareen and others would be evacuated.
The protesters blocked Taftan road, which suspended traffic and chanted full-throated slogans against the provincial government in this regard.
Around 300 Zaireen, traders and students are still at quarantine centers after their entry from Iran.
“Despite the completion of the quarantine period, they are not conducting our tests”, Muhammad Naeem, another protester told Quetta Voice.
The protesters complained that for the last 15 to 18 days, they were languishing in quarantine camps at Pak-Iran border Taftan waiting for evacuation by the authorities.
Liaquat Shahwani however stated that once kits reached then they all would be evacuated from Taftan.
