BAP factions claim majority as no-confidence motion fast approaches

Syed Ali Shah :

QUETTA: Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) factions claimed majority as no-confidence motion in the provincial assembly approaches fast. Sources in Governor’s Secretariat said the assembly session is likely to be convened on October 20th to ask the CM to seek a vote of confidence from the house.

The ruling party’s angry members had submitted a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Jam Kamal on October 12. The incumbent CM and Zahoor Buledi both claim to be president of the party at the same time.

“Majority members support me”, the CM said on Friday evening. However, the disgruntled members claim the majority in the house of 65 in the Balochistan Assembly. “We will prove our majority on the eve of vote of no confidence”, Zahoor Buledi, who heads the angry members told reporters.

Mr. Buledi, speaker Balochistan Assembly, Qudoos Bizenjo, Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran, and other lawmakers arrived from Islamabad on Friday evening.

“BAP’s 4 members want to be CM from the very first day”, Jam Kamal said when asked about the prevailing political crisis. The CM held a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday to muster the support of the key ally in the provincial government.

The angry lawmakers from the ruling party also held a meeting with the federal defense minister, Pervez Khattak to seek his support. “We are allies of the PTI and we apprised Perve Khattak about our no-confidence motion”, Mr. Buledi said.

Cracks appeared within the ruling party when the joint opposition submitted a no-confidence motion against the incumbent CM on September 16. Three government ministers including Zahoor Buledi, Sardar Abdul Rehman  Khetran, and Asad Baloch tendered resignations as protests against Jam Kamal Khan.
