Doctors observing strike to be sacked: Balochistan High Court

Syed Ali Shah :

QUETTA: Balochistan High Court (BHC) has directed the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Balochistan not to observe strikes and avoid creating problems for the patients. “Doctors observing boycott of OPDs would be sacked”, Chief Justice BHC, Mr. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan said during a hearing of the health department on Monday.

Representatives of the YDA Balochistan, Secretary Specialized Health Care, Noor ul Haq Baloch, and others also appeared before a division bench of the BHC. The bench comprises CJ Mr. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Mr. Justice Abdullah Baloch of the BHC.

Action would be taken against doctors violating court orders and contempt of court proceedings would be initiated against them, the bench ordered. CJ BHC directed the protesting doctors not to take out rallies and protest demonstrations.

“We are protesting against the killing of a young doctor”, YDA representative

The YDA representative informed the court that a young doctor was murdered in Quetta the other day and doctors were protesting against that incident. “Did government kill the doctor”, the CJ asked the YDA representative. “Have you met the DIG Police and IG Police in connection with the murder of the doctor”, Mr. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan questioned.

“Let the system function”, BHC

“Let the system function”, the bench told the YDA representatives. The court directed the health department government of Balochistan and protesting doctors to submit their demands in written form to the court. The court directed Secretary Health to improve health services in government-run hospitals across the province.

BHC had ordered ending the boycott of OPDs in all government-run hospitals of Balochistan the other day. Doctors kept continued the boycott of OPDs for more than a month to mount pressure on the government for acceptance of their demands.
