Seasoned Baloch nationalist leader Dr. Hayee Baloch died in a traffic accident on Friday. He was going to Bahawalpur from Faisalabad after attending a conference when his vehicle met an accident.
Mukhtar Chalgari, a former political colleague of Dr. Baloch said that the vehicle of the late leader collided with another vehicle when he was going from Faisalabad to Bahawalpur. The dead body of the late nationalist leader would be brought to Balochistan for burial. He would be laid to rest in his ancestral district Kachi tomorrow (Saturday).
Political leaders expressed grief and sorrows
Political leaders and people belonging to almost all walks of life have expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Dr. Hayee Baloch. “This is an irreparable loss to Baloch national movement”, Dr. Malik Baloch, the former Balochistan Chief Minister said. He expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Dr. Hayee Blaoch. Governor Balochistan, Syed Zahoor Ahmed Agha, Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo have also grief and sorrow over the sudden death of Dr. Hayee Baloch. They prayed than may Allah rest the departed souls in peace and give patience to the family members.
Who was Dr. Hayee Baloch?
Dr. Baloch was born in 1945 in Chlgari area of district Kachi in Bhag tehsil. He got basic education from Bhag Kachi and did his MBBS from Karachi. He started his political career at Baloch Students Organisation (BSO) and later served as the Chairman of the students’ organization. Throughout life, Dr. Baloch played from the front for the acquisition of rights of small nationalities in general and Baloch rights in particular.
Dr. Baloch elected an MNA in 1970 on the ticket of NAP
Dr. Baloch remained a member of the National Assembly in 1970 along with Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri and other leaders. He was elected on the ticket of the then defunct National Awami Party (NAP). Dr. Hayee Baloch and late Nawab Marri had refused to sign over the 1973 Constitution in the country and expressed reservations in this regard.
Dr. Baloch also formed the Balochistan National Movement (BNM). He was the President and former Chief Minister Balochistan, Sardar Akhtar Mengal was the Vice-President.
Dr. Baloch remained a political ally of Nawab Bugti and Sardar Attaullah Mengal
Dr. Baloch remained a political ally of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and Sardar Attaullah Khan Mengal and played an important role in the politics of Balochistan. In the 1990s, Dr. Baloch was elected as Senator during the government of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. In 2005, Dr. Baloch played a key role in establishing the National Party. However, in 2009, differences surfaced between NP and Dr. Baloch parted ways with Dr. Malik Baloch and the late Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo.
