QUETTA: Differences surfaced between President Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and General Secretary Senator Manzoor Kakar about the intra-party elections. The ruling party’s GS, Manzoor Kakar announced intra-party elections on May 9 in a statement issued to the press on Friday evening.

This prompted former Chief Minister and President of the BAP, Jam Kamal Khan who rejected the decision of Mr. Kakar. “Senior leaders of the party have not been consulted in this regard”, Jam Kamal said. As a president of the party, I would later announce the holding of the intra-party elections after consultation with party leaders, Jam Kamal mentioned.

The ruling party practically divided into two factions

This announcement on behalf of the GS has practically divided the party into two factions. Mr. Kakar enjoys the support of the Chief Minister Mir Quddus Bizenjo, provincial ministers Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran, Noor Muhammad Dumar, Muhammad Khan Lehri, Sardar Saleh Bhootani and others.

Whereas, former senior minister Mir Zahoor Buledi, Arif Jan Muhammad Hassani, Saleem Khan Khoso, Nawabzada Tariq Magsi,  Mitha Khan Kakar, and others support Jam Kamal Khan. Jam Kamal was removed as the CM of Balochistan through a no-confidence motion submitted by angry BAP members in October 2021.
