Gwadar Rights Movement (GRM) won most of the seats in Gwadar, the country’s port city during the local bodies’ elections on Sunday. The GRM is led by local cleric Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman has given a surprise to the four-party alliance including Balochistan National Party (Mengal), National Party (NP), and Jamiat ul Ulema e Islam (JUI) and Syed Ehsan Shah, the health minister Balochistan.

The GRM has won 27 seats in Gwadar. The total seats on the Gwadar Municipal Committee were 42. Elections were held on 39 seats and no election was held on the remaining three seats because of various issues.

“People have reposed their confidence in GRM”, Maulana Hidayat said in a tweet on Sunday night. There was no immediate response from the four-party alliance contesting the Maulana in the port city.

The GRM has also won seats from Pasni, Sur Bandar, and other parts of the Gwadar district as per unofficial and unconfirmed reports.
