QUETTA: Saqib Kakar, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Quetta has been tested positive for novel coronavirus, sources close to him confirmed to Quetta Voice. Kakar as an administrative officer in Quetta played a key role in the fight against the COVID-19 and supporting the patients returning from Iran in crucial times. Frequent interaction with suspected coronavirus patients and visits of quarantine centres was a major reason behind Saqib Kakar, contracting the virus.

He spent sleepless nights at quarantine centers established in the outskirts of Quetta in the aftermath of the global outbreak of novel coronavirus. Kakar’s photos sitting with colleagues close to wood-fire in the night too went viral on social media, with common people praising him.

“Saqib’s condition has improved”, one of his relatives told Quetta Voice. Saqib has been kept in isolation for medical treatment since the confirmation of novel coronavirus. Despite the looming threat of corona, Saqib kept continuing visiting quarantine centers to review arrangements for the patients and those quarantined.

Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Major (R) Aurangzai Badini also took to Twitter and tweeted, “my hero has been tested with coronavirus”.

Saqib is the first-ever high ranking officer in Balochistan being tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the province. 18 health professionals including 14 doctors and 4 health care-workers have already been tested positive for the coronavirus.
