QUETTA: Secretary of Education Balochistan, Rauf Baloch on Tuesday said the promotion of the female literacy rate was the top priority of the government. He expressed these views while addressing the 23rd Local Education Group meeting, which discussed issues relating to the education sector in Balochistan.

He said that gender equality has been given primary importance, with a special focus on improving the literacy of female students at the primary level. In addition increasing the competence of teaching staff, improving the curriculum and content, gender diversity and better teaching in the classrooms are being given primer importance, along with the school management committee’s role has been robust, including better coordination between teachers and parents by this we have increased the enrollment rate of children along with minimizing the dropout ratio.

He appreciated the initiatives of development partners and other relevant stakeholders. More importantly, organizations like Global Partnership for Education (GPE), UNICEF, the European Commission, etc roles were appreciated.

Endorsing the endeavors of other stakeholders he emphasized their continuing support and cooperation, urging them to continue in the provision of technical and financial support in achieving education indicators. He said that the recent floods and emergency alike situation arising from climate change needs more pragmatic and diligent efforts to help the masses in seeking education.

Addressing the meeting, Global Partnership for Education team leader Dr. Hoa Trans Ringrose spoke about the details of the new operating model of GPE 2025, including its aims and objectives, future action plans including better monitoring and other factors in the promotion of education.

In the meeting, UNICEF Education Manager Palwasha Jalalzai said that under the Balochistan Education Flood Response 2022, 9136 out of 15082 schools across the province have been assessed to date, out of which 1137 schools have been severely or partially damaged.

At this critical moment, UNICEF teams are present in the flood-affected areas and are working with the Department of Education and District Administration. To which 43 temporary learning centers were established where 1401 boys and 1501 girls students are seeking education.

Moreover, from 23 schools flood drainage and debris were removed. Added more she said that the UNICEF team is fulfilling its professional responsibilities in promoting education in the province.
