QUETTA: In the aftermath of the closely contested general elections held in Balochistan, the allocation of seats reserved for women in the Balochistan Assembly has been finalized, showcasing a diverse representation across political spectrums.
Women hold 11 reserved seats in the 65-seat Balochistan Assembly. PPP and PML-N succeeded in winning three seats each, forming the two largest parliamentary groups in the province after the February 8 general elections.
PPP, PML N Each Got 3 Women Reserved Seats
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerged victorious with three of its women candidates securing seats in the assembly. Notable among them are Ghazala Gola, Meena Majeed, and Shehnaz Umrani, who will now represent the PPP’s position in the assembly. The PPP, PML-N, and the JUI-F each secured one seat on minority reserved seats in the Balochistan Assembly.
Similarly, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) also claimed three seats for women in the assembly. Among their successful candidates are Rahila Durrani, Kiran Haider, and Hadiya Nawaz, all poised to advocate for the party’s agenda.
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) also made its mark with two women representatives, Shahida Rauf and Sadia, securing seats in the assembly, adding their voices to the legislative process.
ANP And NP Got One Seat Each
The Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), led by Farah Azim Shah, clinched one seat for women, showcasing their presence in the Balochistan Assembly.
Moreover, the National Party and Awami National Party (ANP) each secured one seat reserved for women in the assembly. Ume Kulsum will represent the National Party’s stance, while Salma Bibi will serve as the voice of the ANP in the legislative body.
With this diverse representation of women from various political parties, the Balochistan Assembly is set to embark on its legislative journey, addressing the myriad issues facing the province.
