At least 28 people have died at least 20 are injured after a bus fell into a ravine in Washuk, Balochistan on Wednesday, according to officials.
According to Basima Assistant Commissioner (AC) Ismail Mengal, the accident occurred when a tire burst, which lead to the bus plunging into a ravine. Women and children are also among the deceased. Some of the injured are in critical condition, with officials fearing it may lead to a rise in the number of deaths.
The bodies and the injured were taken to the Basima Civil Hospital, where 22 more people succumbed to their injuries.
The tragic loss of lives prompted the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, to instruct authorities to transfer around two dozen injured victims to Quetta for medical treatment. The CM directed the authorities to evacuate the injured using the Government of Balochistan’s helicopter to ensure they receive the best medical care.
“Seriously injured individuals should be shifted to Quetta,” CM Bugti stated while expressing grief and sorrow over the tragic incident and the loss of lives. Two students from Turbat University were among those who perished in the accident.
Levies personnel arrived at the scene after the accident and have begun an investigation into the incident. The bus was completely destroyed in the crash.
Many people have lost their lives on highways across Balochistan. Reckless driving, narrow roads, and the poor condition of highways have been identified as the main reasons for the increasing number of incidents on these roads.
