QUETTA: In a decisive move to address financial concerns, the Balochistan Cabinet has imposed an immediate ban on new recruitments in public universities across the province. Presiding over the fourth meeting of the Provincial Cabinet, Chief Minister Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti expressed deep concern over the financial instability faced by universities, highlighting issues such as the inability to pay salaries and rampant recruitment despite ongoing construction of new buildings.
The meeting, held to tackle various provincial issues, also saw the approval of the settlement of government-owned land under the Green Corporate Partnership Project. Furthermore, a special committee has been set up to review the Public Sector Universities Act and compare it with similar legislation in other provinces. The committee, which includes Provincial Ministers Mir Zahoor Bilidi, Mir Shoaib Noshirwani, Bakht Khan Kakar, and the Secretary of Higher Education, has been tasked to make its recommendations within seven days.
Chief Minister Bugti emphasized the urgency of financial prudence, underscoring the necessity of the recruitment ban to stabilize university operations and ensure the efficient use of resources. The Cabinet’s decision aims to curb unnecessary expenditures and focus on sustainable development within the province’s higher education sector.
