The Balochistan National Party (Mengal) chief, Sardar Akhtar Mengal on Wednesday announced the parting of ways with Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) led government in Center. The BNP Chief made this announcement during the budget session of the national assembly in Islamabad.
BNP had extended its conditional support to the ruling PTI at the time of the formation of a coalition government in Islamabad. BNP had put six points as conditions in order to support the Imran Khan-led federal government in the past.
“I am officially announcing the breaking of alliance with PTI since our demands have not been met”, Sardar Mengal told the national assembly session. Before this announcement, the government’s negotiating team had a series of meetings with the Baloch nationalist leader.
BNP has four legislators in the national assembly.
The BNP-M and PTI had signed a six-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) in August 2018 for an alliance at the Centre. The six points included recovery of missing persons, implementation of the National Action Plan, implementation of six percent quota for Balochistan in the federal government, immediate repatriation of Afghan refugees, and the construction of dams in the province to resolve the acute water crisis.
