In a bid to ensure public safety and religious harmony during Muharram, the Balochistan government has implemented Section 144 in eight districts of the province. The restrictions will remain in effect from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram, as per an official announcement from the Home Department.
Under the new measures, the display of firearms and pillion riding on motorcycles have been banned. Authorities have also restricted the sale and distribution of materials promoting sectarian discord, including provocative literature and publications.
To prevent gatherings that could pose security concerns, all assemblies of more than five people have been prohibited—excluding licensed Muharram processions. Renting out properties, tents, or shops without prior clearance from local administration has also been disallowed during this period.
The provincial administration has deployed additional security personnel and intensified surveillance as part of comprehensive efforts to safeguard religious events. These steps come in light of past incidents in various parts of Balochistan where Muharram-related violence has occurred, prompting the need for heightened alertness.
Officials emphasized that these decisions are preventative in nature and aimed at creating a peaceful environment for all communities. Citizens are encouraged to support the efforts of law enforcement and report any unusual activities to nearby authorities.
