Hanif Tareen:

At least six coal miners sustained injuries after a gas explosion rocked a coal mine in the Talib Lease area of Harnai district, Balochistan, on Tuesday, according to Levies sources.

The blast, caused by the accumulation of methane gas inside the mine, triggered a partial collapse. Fellow workers immediately launched a rescue effort on a self-help basis, successfully pulling the injured miners to safety before authorities arrived.

The injured were identified as Wajid, Sher Afzal, Amir Muhammad, Ashraf Ali, and Agha Muhammad. All were given first aid at a local medical facility before being shifted to Quetta for advanced treatment.

This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns in Balochistan’s mining sector, where outdated equipment and poor ventilation systems put workers at constant risk. Authorities have launched an inquiry into the cause of the explosion and emphasized the need for strict enforcement of mining safety regulations.

The Harnai district has seen multiple similar incidents in recent years, prompting renewed calls from labor rights groups for improved safety standards across Pakistan’s coal mining industry.
