NaseerabadUnder the special directives of Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani and Chief Engineer Canals Nasir Majeed, and on the instructions of Executive Engineer Pat Feeder Canal Farid Ahmed Pandrani, a large-scale and effective operation was carried out against those involved in water theft through illegal water channels, oversize pipes, and other unlawful means in the Rabi Canal.

The operation was supervised by Sub-Divisional Officer Saleem Behrani with strong cooperation from Naib Tehsildar Mehtab Hussain Marri and FC personnel. Syed Sajjad Shah was also present during the operation. Several illegal water channels were demolished, while five electricity transformers and heavy machinery used for lifting water were seized on the spot. Multiple illegal water channels were completely destroyed.

Speaking on the occasion, Executive Engineer Farid Ahmed Pandrani said that the primary objective of this operation is to ensure fair, transparent, and uninterrupted supply of irrigation water up to the tail-end of the Rabi Canal. He stated that some elements were illegally stealing water using oversize pipes and powerful machinery, causing severe harm to poor and hardworking farmers at the tail-end.

He emphasized that water theft is not just an offense against an individual but an injustice to all farmers associated with agriculture — and it will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Pandrani further said that the irrigation system can only function properly when water distribution is fair and every farmer receives their rightful share without disruption. For this reason, a zero-tolerance policy has been adopted against illegal connections, unauthorized machinery, and all unlawful methods.

He added that the Irrigation Department will continue such operations in the future, no matter how large the operation may be, because solving the issues of tail-end farmers and ensuring them proper supply of irrigation water is the department’s top priority.

The Executive Engineer appealed to all farmers to report any incidents of water theft, oversize pipes, or illegal machinery so that a collective and fair irrigation system can be developed for everyone.
