Quetta, April 13, 2026: Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has ordered a full-scale inquiry into the alleged killing of a young man by police in Quetta, calling the incident “deeply tragic” and assuring that the truth will not be hidden.
Addressing the provincial assembly, the chief minister acknowledged the seriousness of the case and confirmed that the government had already taken notice. “We will carry out a thorough investigation, and if there has been any mistake on our part, we will not attempt to cover it up,” he said.
Initial findings suggest the victim may have been innocent, though officials are still examining how the situation unfolded. Authorities are investigating whether the incident resulted from a misjudgment by police personnel or if the individual failed to stop when signaled. A detailed report is expected within days and will be shared with the assembly.
Bugti admitted that operational errors can occur in such situations but stressed that the loss of an innocent life is irreversible. In a move aimed at providing relief to the grieving family, he announced that the government would offer financial compensation, take responsibility for the education of the victim’s children, and provide employment assistance to an unemployed brother.
He also highlighted that, in accordance with local Baloch traditions, the government would personally approach the bereaved family to seek reconciliation and support.
An internal investigation into the conduct of the police officials involved is already underway to determine accountability. The chief minister reiterated that justice would be ensured and that the findings of the inquiry would be made public.
